10th Assembly: G7, Opposition Members-Elect To Unveil Consensus Candidates

The Greater Minority Group of the 10th Assembly comprising members-elect from opposition parties on Saturday met with members of the G7 group to reach a consensus deal on the leadership positions of the 10th House of Representatives.

According to Daily trust, Greater Minority is made up of 182 members-elect across minority parties – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); Labour Party (LP); New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP); Africa Democratic Congress (ADC); Young People’s Party (YPP); All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s chosen candidates for speaker and deputy speaker were rejected by the G7, a group of disgruntled candidates for the speakership.

Daily trust report that, They are Sada Soli, Miriam Onuoha, Sani Jaji, Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, Chairman of the House Committee on Navy, and Muktar Aliyu Betara, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.

The incoming lawmakers decided to have consensus candidates for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker seats at the conclusion of the meeting, which took held on Saturday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

However, they chose to hold off on announcing their top picks until a later time.

Daily trust report that, Gagdi, a member of the G7, commented on the situation and said that the members-elect selected people who would be supported by the majority of them.

We won’t reveal the names just yet, but the G7 met with the Greater Minority and came to an agreement on candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Based on the finest selection of individuals who will be favoured by the majority of all parties involved, we came to a decision.

“We created this coalition to thwart any efforts made by outside forces to impose their will on the 10th House of Representatives. Rest assured that we will produce the next House leadership,” he stated.
