It was reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu has refused to identify the sources of money for its campaign operations, even though there are just eighteen days left to the campaign period.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has previously announced that the campaign for the presidential election in 2023 will take place on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
However, ahead of the upcoming presidential election, the Electoral Commission has stated that section 88 of the Electoral Act of 2022 restricts all campaign candidates must not spend more than N5 billion during the campaign period.
In addition, the maximum amount of money that can be donated to the candidate by an individual or a business is N50 million.
Bayo Onanuga, who is in charge of media and publicity for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, spoke with Punch during an interview in which he claimed that the strategy to raise money for Tinubu’ s campaign is not intended for media consumption.
He went on to say that the question of how the funds will be raised might be answered once the fundraising committee was organized.
He said, ” Why should we be discussing that on the pages of newspapers? I can’ t say anything. You will have to wait until a fundraising committee has been set up. Our directorate of the presidential campaign council is not dealing with all issues.
