2027: Former Gov. Seriake Dickson Reveals Nigeria’s Most Dangerous Coup Politician and Gov’t Officials’ Strategies

Former Governor of Bayelsa, Senator Seriake Dickson, has described election rigging as the “worst coup” that government officials, security agencies and the electoral umpire can plan.

Naija News reports that Dickson spoke at the fifth anniversary lecture of First Daily Newspaper held on Monday in Abuja. The event, attended by politicians, diplomats, and media executives, had as its theme, “2027: How Can We Make Our Votes Count?”

The Chairman of the occasion, Senator Dickson, opined that election rigging constitutes a coup against the sovereignty of the people, stressing that it undermines democracy more than any other act.

He further warned that Nigeria’s democracy faces grave danger from electoral fraud, voter apathy, and political manipulation as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

He said, “Rigging of elections is the worst coup you can plan. When politicians, government officials, security agencies, and the electoral umpire collude to manipulate results, they violate the sovereignty of the people.”

According to Dickson, falsifying results or declaring outcomes not based on actual votes amounted to “a coup against democracy and the country.”

The former Governor also called on the National Assembly to strengthen electoral laws to safeguard the people’s mandate.

Also speaking at the event, the former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, urged Nigerians to prepare to vote massively in 2027 to ensure that President Bola Tinubu is defeated.

In his goodwill message, Amaechi cautioned that voter apathy and complacency allow electoral malpractice to thrive.

He said, “The first solution to electoral reform is not the government. The people are the problem. The more you say they have written the results, the more you have voter apathy. Voter apathy will make President Bola Tinubu return to Villa.”
