22-year-old woman who attacked KAI official in Lagos sentenced to 7 months, 3 weeks imprisonment

On Thursday, March 14, a woman who was allegedly accused of assaulting a female official of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, after being caught for crossing the highway without using the pedestrian bridge was given a seven months and three weeks prison sentence.

The woman, identified as Fasia Ajoke, was punished by the Special Offenses Court at Bolade-Oshodi for attacking a female KAI operative while performing her legitimate duties, according to the state’s commissioner of environment and water resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, who revealed the incident on his X handle on Thursday.

She was also said to have resisted arrest and refused to make use of the Ile-Epo pedestrian bridge, thereby endangering her life in the process.

According to the commissioner, she was arraigned before Chief Magistrate S.A Adefioye of the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile Court) for offences bordering on conducting herself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace, obstruction and breach of peace by crossing the highway.

The commissioner wrote: “The Special Offences Court at Bolade-Oshodi today convicted a lady, 22-year-old Fasia Ajoke to 7 months and 3 weeks in jail for assaulting a female operative of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) on lawful duty, resisting lawful arrest and refusing to make use of the Ile-Epo pedestrian bridge, thereby endangering her life in the process.”

Shortly after sentencing her, the commissioner enjoined every residents of the metropolis to desist from assaulting environmental officers and also make use of the pedestrian bridges as the state will not hesitate to prosecute anyone found breaking the law.
