Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has submitted three names to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for consideration for appointment as commissioners.
The governor forwarded the names to the Assembly on Tuesday, barely a day after the Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, made his resignation public.

Adamu Atiku had stated in his resignation letter that he was quitting Fintiri’s cabinet “after deep reflection and careful consideration” without giving any specific reason.
However, it had long been public knowledge that he opposed the decision to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), as most of his fellow commissioners did alongside Fintiri.
The commissioner nominees received by the Assembly are Sali Idris (Maiha LGA), Muhammed Suleiman (Mubi North LGA) and Chubado Mohammed (Jada LGA).
The requests for the three nominees were contained in separate letters forwarded to the Assembly by Governor Fintiri and read on Tuesday by the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley.
The Speaker directed the clerk to notify the nominees to appear with their curriculum vitae before the Assembly on Monday, March 9, 2026, for screening.
When Adamu Abubakar, the son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, declined last Friday to defect to the APC with Fintiri, he was one of three commissioners to do so.
The other two were the Commissioner for Livestock Development and the Commissioner for Justice, Tijjani Maksha and Afraimu Jingi respectively.
Of the three, only Adamu Atiku has publicly resigned from Fintiri’s cabinet.
However, the submission of three names to the House of Assembly suggests that the other two may also have exited the government.
