Fatima Hassan, a former student union leader, has emerged as the deputy woman leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo at the age of 33.

Hassan announced her emergence in a statement reflecting on her political journey within the party.
She said her entry into politics began shortly after completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Her words: “At 24, barely three months after completing my NYSC, I was appointed special assistant on student affairs by Abiola Ajimobi of blessed memory. That moment became my first real step into practical politics.
“As a young former student union leader, I immersed myself in learning, service and mobilising young women for our great party.”
She said she contested for the position of state woman leader of the party at the age of 29, adding that the consultations and political engagements that followed led to her emergence as the senatorial woman leader of Oyo south.
“Those four years took me deep into grassroots politics as I worked closely with women across the nine local governments in Oyo south,” she said.
Hassan said her emergence as deputy state woman leader marks another milestone in her political journey.
“Today, at 33, I have the honour of emerging as the deputy state woman leader of APC in Oyo state. I am overwhelmed with gratitude and deeply indebted to my party and its leaders for giving me the opportunity and enabling environment to learn, grow and serve,” she stated.
She said she had also served on national and state committees of the party while coordinating women groups within the APC.
Hassan expressed appreciation to the late Abiola Ajimobi, former governor of Oyo, and his family for their support.
“I remain profoundly and forever grateful to the Ajimobi dynasty which laid the foundation for my journey in public service,” she said.
She also thanked Fatima Ajimobi, wife of the late governor, for sustaining the political legacy, adding that she was honoured to serve alongside Kemi Opatunde, the APC woman leader in Oyo.
“It is a privilege and I am excited to serve alongside our state woman leader, Dr. Kemi Opatunde,” she said.
She called on women in the party to unite and strengthen the APC’s grassroots mobilisation in the state.
“To Oyo state APC women, this is a moment that calls for renewed energy and purpose. It is time to demonstrate the strength, capacity and unity that defines us.”
“My gratitude to my party and its leaders will not just be written in words; it will be repaid with loyalty, dedication and tireless service,” she concluded.
