The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has praised Nigerian football stars Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie, alongside the Super Falcons, for their remarkable achievements at the 2024 Confederation of African Football Awards.
Akpabio congratulated Lookman, the Atalanta of Italy forward and Super Eagles striker, for winning the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the Year Award.
“I wish to congratulate one of our finest footballers and an international superstar, Ademola Lookman, on his well-deserved win as the CAF Men’s Player of the Year. This prestigious award is a testament to Lookman’s hard work, dedication, and exceptional skills on the football pitch,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President also celebrated Chiamaka Nnadozie, the Super Falcons goalkeeper, for being named Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive year.
“I would also like to celebrate our amiable and talented Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie, who has once again proven her worth with this award. Her outstanding performance is an inspiration to young Nigerian girls who aspire to excel in sports,” he said.
Akpabio stated this in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, on Tuesday.
In addition, Akpabio lauded the Super Falcons for their collective success in winning the Women’s National Team of the Year Award.
He commended their resilience, teamwork, and commitment to excellence, which have brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage.
“These awards are not only a proud moment for Nigerian football but also a reflection of our nation’s rich sporting talent. We are honoured to have such exceptional athletes representing Nigeria,” Akpabio remarked.
The Senate President assured Nigerians of the National Assembly’s unwavering support for sports development in the country.
“Under my leadership, the Senate and the National Assembly will continue to support sports through enabling laws and adequate appropriations to harness the hidden talents in Nigeria,” he pledged.
The CAF Awards, held annually, celebrate outstanding achievements in African football. This year’s edition has brought renewed global recognition to Nigerian athletes, solidifying the country’s status as a hub for football talent.
