The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed its participation in the forthcoming national convention organised by the faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The State Secretary of the party, Abubakar Kalgo, disclosed this in an interview with a Channels Television correspondent in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
Kalgo said the decision to attend the convention was unanimously taken by key stakeholders of the party in the state.
According to him, all delegates from Kebbi State are prepared to participate fully in the exercise scheduled to take place in Abuja from Sunday to Monday.
“We are satisfied with the arrangements for the Abuja convention, and all our delegates are prepared to participate fully,” he said.
The state secretary explained that the decision reflects the Kebbi PDP’s commitment to remain actively engaged in the party’s national activities despite the internal disagreements currently affecting the party.
He added that the convention presents an opportunity to strengthen internal cohesion and reposition the party ahead of future political contests.
The development comes months after the Kebbi PDP rejected the emergence of Kabiru Tanimu as National Chairman during a convention held in Ibadan in November.
The state chapter had opposed his emergence, despite him being an indigene of Kebbi State, citing his alleged lack of active involvement in party activities within the state and failure to consult key stakeholders before declaring his ambition.
When asked whether the Kebbi PDP was aligning with the Wike-backed faction of the party, Kalgo declined to give a direct response.
“Don’t misquote me. All I know is that we are going to the convention,” he said.
