Chief Mrs Sabainah Ibironke Opawole, the mother of former Ogun State First Lady Olufunke Daniel, has passed away at the age of 93 after a brief illness.
Naija News understands that she died on Thursday, July 2.
The news was made public on Sunday through a statement released by Steve Oliyide, media aide to former Ogun State Governor and Senator Gbenga Daniel.
According to the statement, the Opawole and Daniel families are mourning the loss of their respected matriarch, who died peacefully following a short illness.
Sabainah Opawole was born on April 23, 1933. She was the daughter of Mariam Ladigbolu from the well-known Ladigbolu family of the Oyo Kingdom and the late Reverend O. Osoba of Olodo Village in Abeokuta.
Throughout her life, she remained a committed member of the Baptist Church and was known for her dedication to the Christian faith.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Among her children is Olufunke Daniel, wife of former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, who governed the state between 2003 and 2011 and currently represents Ogun East Senatorial District in the Senate.
The statement also revealed that relatives, friends and associates have continued to send condolence messages to the family since news of her passing became public.
The family said details of her funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
