Spain Beat France 2-0 in 2026 World Cup Semi-Final: How They Shut Down Mbappe

France captain, Kylian Mbappe, has claimed they didn’t stick to their original gameplan, as they lost 2-0 to Spain in the semi-final of the 2026 World Cup.

Les Bleus conceded an early penalty in te first half, which Mikel Oyarzbal smashed in to open the scoring.

After the break, Spain doubled their advantage through a finely worked goal, finished off by Pedro Porro.

Speaking after the match, Mbappe broke down the tactical details to saw Didier Deschamps men lose.

He said: “Right from the start, we were pressing three against two… and we messed up there. Against Spain, you have to press man for man.

“We didn’t activate the game plan. When you don’t do what you’re supposed to do in a World Cup semifinal… you don’t win.

“We did not do what it takes to reach the dream, to reach the World Cup final.”
