The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has published a list of traffic offences and the corresponding fines motorists and other road users may face in Nigeria.
The information posted on the official FRSC website, details the penalties prescribed for various road traffic violations, with fines ranging from N2,000 to N200,000 depending on the offence.
According to the agency’s official offence and penalty schedule, some violations also attract penalty points and additional sanctions.
Among the offences listed by the FRSC is dangerous driving, which attracts a N50,000 fine and 10 penalty points.
Driving a right-hand steering vehicle attracts a N3,000 fine, 10 penalty points and forfeiture of the vehicle, according to the schedule published on the FRSC website.
Motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs face a N5,000 fine and five penalty points, while driving with a worn-out tyre attracts a N3,000 fine and three penalty points.
The FRSC also penalises the use of a phone while driving. The offence attracts a N4,000 fine and four penalty points.

The FRSC’s official schedule also states that an impounded motor vehicle, motorcycle or tricycle attracts a custody fee of N200 per day after an initial 24-hour grace period.
For motorists who choose to waive their right to a court trial, the FRSC says prescribed fines should be paid into the Federal Government Revenue Account through commercial banks or the Remita platform.
The agency directs offenders to select FRSC under the relevant government agencies and choose “Offences” when making payment.
Motorists are advised to obtain official payment documentation and avoid making unofficial payments to road marshals.
