BREAKING: Anambra: Key Stakeholder Speaks as Gunmen Fatally Attack Peter Obi’s Ally’s Community
Unidentified gunmen have attacked Amesi community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, the hometown of Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, an ally of Peter Obi and former governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State.
The attack resulted in the destruction of the town hall, the burning of cars, and the killing of one person.

It is the first time criminals are operating in the state after a long period of calm following the launch of Operation Udo Ga-Achi by the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
When a Legit.ng correspondent visited the scene of the attack, it was found that the attackers burnt at least three vehicles and two motorcycles, in addition to killing one person.
The identity of the slain victim had not yet been officially released as of the time of filing this report.
The President General of the community, Engr. Ezechukwu Oscar, confirmed the development in a telephone conversation with the Legit.ng correspondent, although he stated that he was out of town at the time of the incident.
Church members beg Soludo to free ailing Pastor
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that members of the Children of the Light Anointing Ministry, Nkpor, Anambra State, have issued a passionate plea to Governor Charles Soludo, seeking the release of their prophet and pastor, Onyebuchi Okocha, popularly known as Onye Eze Jesus.
The pastor has been in detention at the Agunechemba security outfit facility since February 16, 2025.
In an exclusive chat with Legit.ng correspondent on Tuesday in Nkpor, the concerned members, under the banner of Concerned Church Members of Children of the Light Anointing Ministry, appealed to the governor.

They described Okocha as a true servant of God who founded the church located in the Amafor area of Nkpor, and who, according to them, is falsely accused of preparing charms for criminals.
The group’s spokesperson, Evangelist Mabel-Mary Ezekiel, condemned the pastor’s continued detention, describing it as “the work of the devil.”

Also, Legit.ng reported that the former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, joined thousands of mourners, global dignitaries, and clergy, during a lying-in-state ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City, to pay his final respects to late Pope Francis, who departed on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88 years.
The solemn lying-in-state ceremony marked the beginning of a series of events leading to the funeral of the revered Pontiff, scheduled for Saturday, April 26.
Many had expressed surprise and had questioned about the presence of Peter Obi as the only lay faithful sighted in the midst of high profile Catholic clergies during the ceremony at St. Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City.
