Applicants are now able to apply for a Nigerian driver’s licence by submitting their details, making payments and scheduling appointments before visiting an FRSC Driver’s Licence Centre for biometric capture.
According to information published on the Nigeria Driver’s Licence portal, applicants can complete key stages of the application online before proceeding to the centre for verification and biometric enrolment.
Applicants are required to attend an FRSC-accredited driving school and obtain a driving school certificate.
Other requirements include:
- National Identification Number (NIN)
- Valid means of identification
- Passport photograph
- Driving school certificate
After completing the required stages, applicants may be issued a temporary driver’s licence valid for 60 days while the permanent licence is being processed.
1. Visit the official portal
Applicants should visit nigeriadriverslicence.org, the Nigerian driver’s licence application portal, to begin the process.
Those accessing the portal on a smartphone may need to switch their browser to Desktop Site if the website does not display properly.
2. Select “DL Application”
Once on the portal, select DL Application and then choose New Driver’s License.
3. Enter your details
Applicants will be asked to provide their driving school certificate number and personal information.
Applicants should ensure that their names and other details correspond with the information linked to their NIN to avoid complications during the application.
4. Select a licence centre and book an appointment
The next stage is to select a preferred FRSC Driver’s Licence Centre where biometric information will be captured.
Applicants should then select an available date and schedule an appointment.
5. Make payment
After scheduling an appointment, applicants can make payment through the Remita payment gateway provided on the official portal.
Depending on the available options, payment can be made by card, bank transfer or USSD.
Applicants should make payments only through the official portal and avoid transferring money to individuals or unofficial agents.
6. Print receipt and attend biometric appointment
After payment, applicants should print their payment receipt and attend the selected Driver’s Licence Centre on the scheduled date.
They should also go with their original documents for verification and biometric capture.
