The Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has vowed to ensure that the state’s sacred heritage is not handed over to political mercenaries or transient tourists in 2027.
He said this in his address to the party’s supporters at the official flag-off of his campaign and House of Assembly candidates, held on Wednesday at the Ake Pavilion, Abeokuta.
Adebutu said the state had regressed in governance and infrastructure in the past 15 years, maintaining that the party remained the undisputed fortress of the masses, fiercely and uncompromisingly dedicated to the people.
He said, “Ogun State is the hallowed land of historical titans. We shall never again surrender our sacred heritage to political mercenaries or transient tourists who are totally blind to our tears.
“For over 31 unbroken years, my roots, my wealth, my enterprises, and my sweat have been irreversibly planted in the soil of Ogun State. I have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with you, creating jobs and fighting for our collective progress. My stake in our shared destiny is total, permanent, and absolute.
“Delivering true, tangible dividends of democracy is not merely our political mission; it is our unbreakable covenant with the people of Ogun State.
“History stands as our irrefutable witness under the PDP, human dignity, monumental infrastructural development, and the sacred welfare of the citizenry were unconditionally elevated above all else.
“We must summon the memory of our golden epoch, the prosperous years of 2003 to 2011 when our local governments breathed with absolute vitality and functional autonomy. In that era, our local economy roared to life because our PDP government believed in you, enforcing policies that ensured wealth creation particularly at the grassroots; the perusal of all indices of development attest to this fact.”
The gubernatorial candidate said his administration would peg its programmes for the people on “ITURA”, which literally means “relief”, for the agony, maladministration, and corruption the ruling party had subjected the people of the state to.
He promised total socio-economic liberation, quality service to the people, and a share in the pedigree of prosperity through the implementation of five key cardinal programmes, namely: building strategic state infrastructure; entrepreneurial development of the people and workforce; steering a strong and resilient economy; stimulating functional and liveable communities; and ensuring accountability, transparency, and a corruption-free work environment.
Adebutu promised to pay pensioners their entitlements as and when due, and also to liberate the local government councils from financial bondage, saying “true financial autonomy for our local governments will create additional twenty nodes of development. This is not rocket science as the Otunba Gbenga Daniel led administration was able to practice this effectively.”
“On my honor, I, Hon. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, solemnly swear to resurrect the glorious, people-centric governance of the Peoples Democratic Party. We will take back our state, help create prosperity and be devoid of the corruption stifling our progress,” he stressed.
