Barely a week after the murder of two police officers, terrorists suspected to be members of the Lakurawa group have struck again, this time killing four individuals at Gumki village in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The tragic incident occurred at a construction site where workers were installing a surveillance mast for the Nigeria Immigration Service. Among the deceased were three staff reportedly working for a leading telecommunications company, Airtel, while one of the victims remains unidentified.
Confusion surrounds the true identity of the victims. While the police report indicated that three of the deceased were Airtel staff, locals and a hospital official from Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital maintained that they were personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service. The bodies of the deceased were transported to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi for further examination.
A hospital worker, who spoke under anonymity, confirmed that three of the victims brought to the facility were immigration staff. However, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, stated:
” Four persons were killed in the attack, one of them a local resident and three Airtel staff. On receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, alongside the Comptroller of Immigration, Kebbi State Command, CIS Muhammad Bashir Lawali, mobilised a team to evacuate the bodies. “
