An explosion suspected to be from an Improvised Explosive Device has destroyed a newly constructed bungalow at Umuneke, Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
Quoting local sources, The Sun newspaper reports that the incident occurred on Sunday morning at about 1 am, destroying the yet to be occupied completed building.
The newspaper also noted that the explosion sent waves of panic through the neighbourhood, prompting many residents to flee to nearby communities for safety.
“We just heard a massive sound, which was heard in other villages. When we gathered the nerves to check the cause of the sound, we saw the newly completed bungalow in rubbles.
“The painful part is that the couple worked hard to build their house and were planning to move in February. We still don’t know what caused the explosion but it doesn’t look ordinary.
“We slept last night with one eye open but we’re hoping to get information on what really happened. Hopefully when the owners come, they will authorise proper inspection of the house”.
