The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, accompanied by a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has paid a condolence visit to the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, and his wife, Hajia Hadiza Umar Namadi, in Dutse, the state capital, following the tragic death of their son, Abdulwahab, and the Governor’s mother, Hajia Maryam Namadi.
Hajia Maryam Namadi, the mother of the Governor, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, after a prolonged illness. The following day, Thursday, December 26, 2024, Abdulwahab, the Governor’s 24-year-old son, tragically died in a fatal motor accident.
During the visit, the First Lady, alongside Hajia Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President, and Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abass, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, offered words of comfort. She reflected on the sovereignty of God over the lives of all people, stating that the length of a person’s life is solely determined by God and that no one can question His will when He calls someone home.
She said, “God owns us all. God assigns time to us all. He can call anyone home at any time. God will console you and the entire state. I pray my next visit here will be a joyous one.”
In his brief remarks, Governor Namadi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the First Lady for her personal visit, which he described as the highest level of condolence. He acknowledged the losses of his son and mother as acts of God, which he and his family could not question.
The Governor also extended his thanks to President Bola Tinubu, who, according to Namadi, had personally reached out to him when the tragic news broke.
The ICAN delegation, led by Chief Davidson C.S. Alaribe, FCA, the Diamond President of ICAN, included members of the Institute’s Governing Council, as well as representatives from the Kano District, Jigawa District, and the newly inaugurated Dala District.
Chief Alaribe expressed the profound sympathy of ICAN, conveying the Institute’s solidarity with the Governor and his family during this challenging time. He offered prayers for the Governor and his family to find strength and comfort in the face of such an immense loss.
The delegation also joined in prayers, asking for divine comfort and fortitude for the Namadi family to endure this irreparable tragedy.
