Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called on Nigerians to support the families of fallen heroes, who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the country’s freedom and security.
Sanwo-Olu made the call on Wednesday at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, emphasised the need for citizens to take responsibility for the welfare of the families of fallen heroes.
“This annual event is a tribute to brave men and women, who have laid down their lives in service to the nation.
“Citizens must take responsibility for the welfare of the families of fallen heroes, ensuring they are well taken care of.”
Sanwo-Olu assured that his administration would continue to collaborate with ex-servicemen and listen to their concerns.
He said it was important to honour the nation’s fallen heroes because of the ultimate sacrifice they made to ensure the country’s security and peace.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Lagos State Council, Mr. Akeem Wolimo, expressed gratitude to the government for its support.
“We appeal for more support in order to fulfill the responsibility of the legion, which is the representative of ex-servicemen,” Wolimo said.
The event featured the firing of rounds volley, laying of wreaths, and the release of ceremonial pigeons and balloons by the governor.
