The Deputy Woman Leader of the Lagos Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the United Kingdom, Ayisat Gbajabiamila, has congratulated Mojisola Meranda on her historic election as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Gbajabiamila, who currently serves as the acting woman leader of the caucus, pledged the unwavering support of the UK chapter’s women for the new Speaker and described her emergence as a groundbreaking achievement for women in leadership.
Naija News recalls that Meranda was elected Speaker on Monday after lawmakers unanimously impeached Mudashiru Obasa, citing allegations of misconduct and financial misappropriation. Her election marks the first time a woman will occupy the position in Lagos State.
Gbajabiamila commended Meranda’s achievement, calling it a proud moment for Lagos and a reflection of her dedication and capability.
“This victory is a proud milestone for Lagos State and a testament to your dedication and capability. We, the women of the APC Lagos Chapter in the UK, join in celebrating your success,” the statement read.
Expressing optimism about the Speaker’s ability to lead effectively, Gbajabiamila highlighted the importance of fostering collaboration to enhance Lagos State’s development.
“We look forward to working closely with you to achieve a Lagos that delivers on the promises of democracy for every citizen,” she added.
The APC chieftain also lauded the efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, crediting him for laying a solid foundation for governance in Lagos.
“The governor’s commitment to progress has been instrumental, and this new leadership will surely build on those achievements,” she noted.
