A new report by the Central Bank o Nigeria (CBN) has shown that Nigerians spent about $2.39 million (N3.7 billion) on medical treatment abroad.
The report by the CBN shows that the money was spent between January and September 2024 for social services and health-related services under the sectoral utilisation of foreign exchange.
According to the details of the report, in January, $2.3 million was spent while no amount was spent in February.
In March, April, May, June and July, $0.01 million, $0.00 million, $0.05 million, $0.02 million, $0.00 million were spent respectively.
Similarly, in August, Nigerians spent $0.00 million while in September $0.10 million was spent.
The report also showed that the amount spent on medical services in the first nine months of 2023 was higher than that of the period under revie.
Between January and September 2023, N3.45 million was spent on medical tourism by Nigerians.
