A pregnant woman in Okija, Anambra State, has been rescued after enduring illegal detention and alleged inhumane treatment at the hands of vigilante operatives, following orders from her own husband.
The shocking incident, which has drawn widespread condemnation, came to light through a trending video intercepted by the Anambra State Police Command. The state Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, acted swiftly, ordering the woman’s rescue and launching an investigation into the disturbing case.

Ikenga expressed the CP’s outrage at the vigilante group’s actions, emphasizing that such acts of “indiscriminate detention and inhuman treatment” have no place in a lawful society.
“The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has ordered a full investigation into the matter to ensure justice is served,” the statement read. “He has also initiated measures to address the excesses of unprofessional vigilante members in the state.”
The video that sparked the intervention has left many Nigerians horrified, as it highlights the troubling reality faced by some underprivileged individuals who fall victim to extrajudicial actions. The woman, visibly distressed and vulnerable due to her condition, has become a symbol of the urgent need for reform in local security practices.
The Commissioner of Police assured the public that steps are being taken to prevent future occurrences. “We are engaging relevant authorities to ensure that vigilante operatives adhere strictly to professional standards,” Ikenga said.
