BREAKING: Police Confirm Shooting of Doctor, Abduction of Others in Kaduna Govt Hospital Attack

The Police in Kaduna have confirmed an attack on Kankara General Hospital, Kaduna which left a doctor and another health worker with gunshot wounds.

The police said that three other people were abducted by the gunmen during the attack.

Aliyu Abubakar, the commissioner of Police in Kaduna State while condemning the attack described it as senseless and unacceptable.

He said healthcare workers have critical roles to play in the society and should never be a target for attack.

In a statement issued by the Kaduna police spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, the CP said the bandits attacked the hospital on Tuesday, January 14.

According to the police, the gunmen invaded the hospital premises with AK-47 riffles and shot sporadically in the air.

However, Sadiq said that a team of police officers were immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident where a gun battle ensued with the bandits.

”Unfortunately, two persons were shot and injured during the attack. One Dr. Murtala Saleh, m, age 30, a doctor at the hospital, was shot and injured on the right thigh, while one Kamala Suleiman, m, age 20, was injured on the knee.

“Both victims are currently receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.

”Also three persons were kidnapped by the bandits,” Sadiq said.

He noted that while the police is making effort to rescue the kidnapped victims and apprehend the criminals, the CP has also urged residents to go about their routine activities.
