BREAKING: APC sweeps Benue LG polls, wins all chairmanship and councillorship seats

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a sweeping victory in the Benue State local government elections, winning all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions contested on Saturday, October 7, 2024.

Announcing the results on Sunday, the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Richard Tombowua, declared the elections as peaceful and transparent, stating that the process went smoothly without any significant issues.

“The election held yesterday across the state went smoothly without hitches. It was free and fair, and the returning officers have submitted all the results from the field,” Tombowua said during a press briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Makurdi.

He added that the APC emerged victorious in all chairmanship and councillorship races, securing all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship seats across the state.

Five out of the eight registered political parties participated in the polls.

They include the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In reaction to the results, Ibrahim Idoko, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and a member of the Labour Party, commended the electoral commission for conducting a hitch-free election.

He also praised Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia for ensuring a level playing field for all political parties during the election.

Idoko noted that while his party would review the election’s outcome, a formal statement would be made at a later date.
