General Sadiq is accused of diverting rice palliatives meant for soldiers and selling military equipment, including generator sets and operational vehicles, to scrap yards.
The rice palliatives in question were provided by the Nigerian Defence Headquarters to brigades across the country for distribution among soldiers.
According to reports from Daily Nigerian, General Sadiq allegedly failed to distribute the supplies to his men in Kano State and instead kept them for personal gain.
The embattled general is also accused of stealing official equipment belonging to the military, including a MIKANO heavy-duty generator from the Military Training Camp in Falgore, Kano, and selling it to metal scrap dealers.
Following these allegations, General Sadiq was summoned to Abuja, where he was immediately detained in a military police guardroom.
Sources say he is currently undergoing interrogation by the special investigation branch of the military police.
“Brigadier General Sadiq has been detained in the guardroom and is facing interrogation. He was first invited to Abuja for questioning, and immediately ordered to be locked in the military police guardroom. There are mounting allegations against him,” a source revealed.
In light of the unfolding scandal, Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, a former Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has been appointed to replace Sadiq as the commander of the 3 Brigade in Kano.
General Sadiq is expected to face charges at a court-martial after the ongoing investigation.
The military has promised a full-scale investigation to uncover the extent of the misconduct, with sources confirming that the case is far from closed.
“Full-scale investigations into the matter are ongoing. He will likely face charges at the court-martial,” the source added.
