The Abia State House of Assembly has approved a change to the law affecting the tenure of Local Government Chairmen.
The amendment increases their term from two years to four.
This new law allows Chairmen more time to plan and implement projects for the community.
The decision follows efforts by both the state government, led by Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, and the Federal Government to improve local governance.
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Speaker of the House, played a key role in passing the amendment.
The move is expected to create a more stable and effective local government system.
