BREAKING: According to Kalu: If Trump Wants Our Friendship, We Will Be His Friend. If He Doesn’t Want Us, We Won’t Want Him

Nigerian politician Orji Uzor Kalu recently discussed his thoughts on Donald Trump’s presidency and its possible effects on Nigeria in an interview with Silverbird TV. He emphasized Nigeria’s sovereignty and the necessity of concentrating on national interests while highlighting the significance of mutual respect in the country’s relationship with the United States.

Kalu pointed out that while President Trump’s policies are shaped by the U.S. Congress, Nigeria should prioritize its goals rather than seeking approval from foreign nations. He stressed that Nigeria’s position as a sovereign state allows it to chart its course independently while maintaining diplomatic ties with global powers.

“If Trump wants to be our friend, we will be his friend. If he doesn’t want to be our friend, we won’t be his friend,” he said.

He addressed the possibility of Nigeria building a positive relationship with the Trump administration, underlining that such ties must be based on mutual respect. Kalu believes Nigeria should approach its international relationships with discipline and aim to maintain a cordial rapport with the U.S., regardless of policy shifts.

Although Kalu acknowledged the absence of concrete Trump policies specific to Africa, he expressed optimism about strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relationship with the U.S. He highlighted the opportunity for Nigeria to position itself as a key partner, especially under a new American administration.

To advance this goal, Kalu revealed plans to visit Washington, D.C., where he intends to engage with members of Congress and other influential stakeholders. This proactive approach, he noted, is essential for Nigeria to foster partnerships and adapt to changing global dynamics.
