BREAKING: DIG redeployed to lead Force CID two weeks after posting to south-south zone

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate redeployment of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jonathan Towuru to head the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This decision, communicated via a wireless message dated Wednesday, January 22, takes effect immediately and has been shared with all police formations, commands, and units nationwide.

DIG Towuru’s redeployment comes just two weeks after he was decorated and appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of Police representing the South-South geopolitical zone.

Towuru was initially appointed on January 8 by the Police Service Commission to replace DIG Daniel Pedro, who retired as the DIG in charge of Information and Communications Technology.

Towuru’s extensive career in the Nigeria Police Force includes roles such as Assistant Commissioner of Police at the State CID, Enugu, in 2011; Deputy Force Secretary at Force Headquarters, Abuja, in 2012 and 2019; and Commissioner of Police at Western Port, Apapa, Lagos, in 2022. His most recent assignment was as Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of Zone 6, Calabar, Cross River State.

The wireless message announcing his redeployment, titled “TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.5/246 X Posting Senior Officer,“ reads in part:

“INGENPOL has ordered the posting of DIGPOL Jonathan Towuru, mni, to DIG FCID FHQ ABJ. Posting is with immediate effect please.”

DIG Towuru, who hails from Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, is expected to bring his wealth of experience to his new role at the FCID.
