The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has taken measures to address the lingering controversy surrounding allegations of romantic relationships between some of its female members and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the guild has launched a thorough investigation into the matter, placing several actresses on its “watchlist.”
A blog in July claimed that Dakore Egbuson-Akande, Nancy Isime, and Ini Edo were involved in affairs with Akpabio. But the Senate President swiftly denied the allegations, stating that his wife was enough for him. Egbuson-Akande also threatened to sue the blog for defamation.
However, in a memo released on Friday, the AGN confirmed that the actresses are being “investigated” by its secret panel.
The guild commended the panel’s professional work, emphasizing that the investigation focuses on the recent release of names purportedly linked to the Senate President.
“On behalf of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, I commend the professional and incisive work done by members of the secret investigative panel,” the memo reads in part.
“However, some female members on the watch list are being investigated by the secret panel, especially in the recent release of names purported to have had dealings with the Senate President.”
In a related development, the AGN announced the suspension of Halima Abubakar for “spreading false information” about fellow members, associates, and patrons.
A two-year-long investigation uncovered Halima’s “involvement in slandering the film industry, AGN said.
