Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has launched a blistering attack on his successor, Uba Sani, accusing him of sycophancy and catering to President Bola Tinubu for personal advantage.
El-Rufai’s criticism arose in response to Sani’s comments during a TVC News interview on Monday, in which the governor expressed astonishment at the increasing criticism of Tinubu’s administration from certain founding members of the All Progressives Congress.
Reacting through his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, El-Rufai claimed that Sani’s steadfast allegiance to Tinubu was tied to over N150 billion in federal reimbursements that Kaduna State had received in the past 18 months.
“Each day I see this governor embarrassingly and sycophantically rambling, I find myself pondering why. However, the revelation that the federal government has selectively provided ‘reimbursements, interventions, and grants’ amounting to over N150 billion to Kaduna from Tinubu over the last 18 months now clarifies everything.
“By all means, defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer. Asiwaju has earned your support. The people of Kaduna State will pass judgement at the appropriate time. Have a nice day,” El-Rufai remarked.
In the TV interview, Sani had condemned some APC members for their public dissent regarding Tinubu’s policies, labelling their actions as “unfortunate” and “undemocratic.”
“I was genuinely surprised to hear a coalition of politicians coming together at this critical juncture to make such comments. Some even urged the public to take the law into their own hands, opposing the government in a manner I deem undemocratic,” Sani stated.
Challenging Tinubu’s detractors, Sani urged them to wait until the 2027 elections if they believed they were popular enough to unseat the president.
“Of course, I want to make it clear that we are in a democratic era, with just over two and a half years until the next election. Any politician who believes they can defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the APC should work diligently and present themselves in the next election,” he added.
