BREAKING: Nigeria Police Recover 191 Firearms, 4,255 Rounds of Ammunition In Crackdown on Gunrunning Syndicates

In a continued effort to strengthen national security and combat organised crime, the Nigeria Police Force has intensified its crackdown on gunrunning and the illegal proliferation of firearms, leading to the recovery of 191 prohibited firearms, 4,255 rounds of various live ammunition, and the arrest of 63 suspects nationwide.

Among the key achievements in this operation was the arrest of eight suspects linked to a gunrunning syndicate operating within Plateau State and its environs. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) apprehended the syndicate members and uncovered a large cache of arms hidden inside a vehicle doormat.

The recovered exhibits include 8 fabricated AK-47 rifles, 4 fabricated revolver guns, 4 fabricated semi-automatic pistols, 11 AK-47 magazines, 1,105 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 12 rounds of 7.88mm live ammunition.

Additionally, another suspect, Amos Sunday Gyang, was arrested in Plateau State for possessing a semi-automatic pistol, which he allegedly discovered in his rented apartment but failed to report to the authorities. The police have reiterated that unlawful possession of firearms is a criminal offence, and citizens who come across weapons must immediately notify law enforcement agencies.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, vowing to spare no effort in tackling security threats. The Nigeria Police Force continues to urge citizens to support security efforts by providing useful intelligence to authorities.

The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, assured the public that the police will sustain their momentum in dismantling criminal networks and ensuring a safer Nigeria.
