BREAKING: Newcastle defeat Arsenal to reach EFL Cup final

Newcastle United, on Wednesday, secured their place in the EFL Cup final after a commanding 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the semi-final second leg, sealing a 4-0 aggregate win over the Gunners.

Goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon ensured Eddie Howe’s side progressed to the final, leaving Arsenal with yet another cup disappointment.

The match began with a controversial moment in the seventh minute when VAR intervened, but the score remained level.

However, it did not take long for Newcastle to assert dominance. In the 19th minute, Jacob Murphy found the back of the net to put the Magpies ahead, sending the home crowd into celebrations.

Arsenal struggled to respond, and their frustrations were evident as Kai Havertz and William Saliba picked up yellow cards in the 42nd and 44th minutes, respectively. Newcastle went into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead.

Just minutes into the second half, Bruno Guimarães received a booking, but Newcastle continued to press forward.

Their persistence paid off in the 52nd minute when Anthony Gordon doubled the lead, effectively sealing Arsenal’s fate.

The Gunners failed to mount a comeback as Newcastle maintained control.

Arsenal’s frustrations continued, with Reiss Nelson picking up a yellow card in the 83rd minute, followed by Fabian Schär receiving a booking in stoppage time.

At full-time, Newcastle emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, adding to their 2-0 first-leg triumph. The result ensures they advance to the final with a dominant 4-0 aggregate score.

The defeat adds to Arsenal’s cup woes as they bow out of the competition, while Newcastle now set their sights on silverware.
