The Bauchi State Government has announced that it will spend N7,803,000,000 billion to reconstruct the state house of assembly.
The Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Danlami Kawule, said this yesterday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting.
“We have gotten ratification from the council on the memorandum for the renovation and reconstruction of Bauchi state House of Assembly complex,” he said.
“His Excellency came up with the idea in his tireless efforts to create a conducive atmosphere for the entire members of the Bauchi state house of assembly in addition to the state assembly commission.”
The Commissioner stated that the reconstruction work on state assembly would have components with offices of committee chairmen, directors of Bauchi state assembly and befitting office for the speaker and his deputy.
He added that the reconstruction will include building for the assembly’s commission.
According to him, Governor Bala Mohammed is doing a lot in terms of providing a conducive working environment across all segments of the state and that necessary tools have been provided to ensure every public servant discharges his or her own responsibility effectively.
Kawule, who stated that all the due processes were followed in procuring the contract, explained that a certification has been received by his ministry directing 50 percent payment to the contractor.
He disclosed that the project is expected to be completed within one and half years.
The Commissioner said that the Governor has directed the ministry to carry out supervision on the ongoing projects to ensure that they are timely completed and actualised.
“We are going to draw a roadmap for the implementation of His Excellency’s directive. We will sit down with all the relevant directors and step down the Governor’s directive to ensure that the Governor’s directive is carried out,” he said.
Speaking further, Commissioner for Information, Hon Shehu Usman Shehu, said the Governor has secured a temporary place for the lawmakers to be sitting pending the completion of the work.
“It’s going to be a total transformation of the whole assembly complex, it’s not just about minor works but completely,” he said.
The Information Commissioner said that the issue of digitisation of the state owned Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC) and Bauchi Television (BATV) was discussed.
According to him, equipment has already arrived with some already fixed, saying that the Governor emphasised that the digitisation has to be done urgently.
“We discussed how to see that the contractor gets all that is needed. This has been done and I assure you that very soon we will invite all of you for the commissioning,” he said.
