The North Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to disgruntled party members and affiliated groups, urging them to desist from making disparaging remarks against President Bola Tinubu, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, and other key party figures.
This warning was conveyed in a statement issued to journalists at the weekend by APC North Central National Vice Chairman Mu’azu Rijau and Zonal Secretary Yakubu Adamu.
In recent weeks, President Tinubu and some senior APC leaders have faced growing criticism from certain political factions, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.
Amaechi recently urged Nigerians to be vigilant in defending their votes ahead of the 2027 elections, cautioning that politicians, including the current leadership, might go to extreme lengths to retain power.
Meanwhile, El-Rufai has distanced himself from the APC, stating that the party has turned into a “zero-man show.”
He also encouraged opposition parties to form alliances to challenge the ruling party and safeguard democracy.
Similarly, Akume has been the target of social media backlash from discontented party members in the North Central region, particularly amid ongoing tensions with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.
During a crucial meeting of APC zonal leaders and state chairmen in Abuja on Friday, the party leadership resolved to take decisive measures against any members found guilty of violating party discipline.
The statement read in part, “The leadership of the APC North Central has observed with concern the activities of certain individuals and support groups who, under the guise of representing the party, have resorted to attacking, insulting, and defaming respected party leaders in the media.
“We strongly condemn this development and wish to clarify that these groups are neither recognised nor authorised to speak on behalf of the party. Particularly concerning are recent baseless attacks directed at the former Governor of Benue State and current SGF, Senator George Akume, by some politically motivated groups.”
The party leadership reaffirmed its confidence in Akume and the five elected APC governors from the North Central region, acknowledging their significant contributions to the party’s growth.
It further warned individuals and groups against any attempts to tarnish the reputation of party leaders, emphasizing that failure to comply would attract appropriate sanctions.
