A suspected Boko Haram commander, identified as Mulwuta, has issued a threat to residents of Banki, a border town in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, warning them to repent before Ramadan or face execution.
The threat, which has caused tension in the community, was revealed in a post on Sunday on the official website of security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to him, Mulwuta declared that those who fail to comply would be “slaughtered like goats.”
Banki has suffered multiple attacks by Boko Haram insurgents in the past, and the latest warning has left residents concerned.
However, some locals according to Makama have dismissed the threat, saying Boko Haram no longer holds the same strength in the area.
“Even when Shekau was alive with all his fighters, he couldn’t do much in Banki, talk more of this small guy. Nobody should take him seriously,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement.
