BREAKING: Gov Soludo Under Fire Over Lawmaker’s Murder

The governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo has come under fire over the killing of a Labour Party Lawmaker and the growing insecurity in the state.

The leadership of the Onitsha Traditional Council while condemning the killing of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North 1 constituency said Soludo fell short on his responsibility as the chief security officer of the state.

Kidnapped on the eve of Christmas in 2024, Azuka’s decomposing body was found under the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.

His death has since caused outrage in Anambra and the country as a whole.

While nine suspects have been arrest in connection to his murder, the council members said they were disappointed with Soludo’s administration on the issue of security.

A statement signed by the Chief of Staff of the Onitsha Traditional Council (Imeobi), Chief Osita Anionwu said Azuka’s abduction and murder is an evidence of the state government’s failure to fulfill its promise of ensuring the security of residents.

The council also condemned the sensationalisation of the discovery of Azuka’s decomposing body by some security agents in the state.

It admonished the state government and the security agents to focus on preventing further crimes rather than engaging in self-praise.

According to the council, fixing Onitsha is tantamount to fixing the whole of Anambra which in turn translates to fixing the Southeast region.

It queried, “Will the state government address the root causes of insecurity and establish a mechanism for providing emotional and material support to victims’ families?”
