Popular Nollywood filmmaker is dead

Dimeji Ajibola, the Nigerian filmmaker behind the popular series Shanty Town, is dead.

He died today after battling an undisclosed illness, according to his colleague, Samuel Olatunji, who disclosed the news in a message he sent to the Nigerian Tribune.

Ajibola’s work spanned film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds, and interactive media.

He held a diverse educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.

His work on Hoodrush in 2012 marked Nigeria’s first urban musical film.
