Buhari visits Maiduguri, pledges support for flood victims

Former President Muhammadu Buhari is currently in Maiduguri, Borno State, to express his condolences to the government and residents affected by the devastating flooding incident that occurred in September 2024.

The flood was triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam, which led to severe destruction, displacing numerous families and causing widespread damage to property and infrastructure.

Buhari was received at the Maiduguri airport by Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume, and other political leaders in the state.

According to a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari went to pay respects to the Shehu of Borno as part of his visit to the state.

The statement reads: “Former President Muhammadu Buhari just landed in Maiduguri, Borno State, into the warm hands of Governor Babagana Zulum, Senator Ali Ndume and other political and government leaders in the state.

“The former president was away on vacation when the state suffered the recent devastating floods and is here to personally commiserate with the Shehu of Borno, the government, and the people of the state following the tragic incident.

“Former President Muhammadu Buhari is now on a sympathy visit to His Royal Majesty, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Al Amin El-Kanemi.”
