Kano Governor Yusuf Presents 2025 Budget to State Assembly

Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has presented a proposed budget of N549.16 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to the state assembly.

The governor delivered the budget proposal on Friday at the Kano State Assembly chambers.

While presenting next year’s budget, the governor reported a 77 percent performance rate for the 2024 budget.

Governor Yusuf explained that the 2025 budget is structured with a capital expenditure component of N312.63 billion and recurrent expenditure of N236.52 billion. Once approved, the budget will have a capital-to-recurrent spending ratio of 57 to 43 percent, focusing more resources on long-term investments.

The governor stated that a significant part of the capital expenditure, totalling N461.45 billion, will be allocated to the social and economic sectors, which he sees as vital to the development of Kano state.

Education is set to receive the largest share of the budget, with N168.35 billion (31 percent) allocated to improve schools, training, and educational infrastructure across the state. Health follows with an allocation of N90.60 billion (16.5 percent). Meanwhile, the agricultural sector is allocated N21.04 billion (3.83 percent) to boost food production and support local farmers. Infrastructure development is another key focus, with N70.68 billion (12.87 percent) directed towards building and maintaining roads, water systems, and public facilities.

Further allocations include N3.89 billion (1.22 percent) for Manufacturing, Commerce, Industry, and Tourism. Environment and Sanitation will receive N15.52 billion (2.83 percent) to tackle waste management and pollution issues in the state. Governance institutions, which include administrative and management bodies, are allocated N98.24 billion (17.57 percent).
