Professor John Emaimo, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences (FUAHSE), has announced that academic degree programmes have officially commenced, with the inaugural cohort of students beginning classes on Friday.
Emaimo shared this news while addressing staff and students shortly after their participation in the “Prof John Emaimo Walk for Life”, part of the festivities marking the university’s 2025 Founders Day celebration.
He highlighted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has verified and approved all courses offered at the university. Subsequently, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) listed FUAHSE on its portal, allowing for student admissions.
“All these processes have been successfully completed, and we are now ready to welcome the admitted students into the classrooms. Interestingly, the first day students enter classrooms coincides with Founders Day, which is significant in any university. We chose February 14 as our date because we cherish love, aiming for both our staff and students, as well as the wider community, to embrace a spirit of love for the university.
“So, tomorrow (today), the first set of students at FUAHSE will step into their classrooms. These pioneers will be awarded degrees from FUAHSE as they start their journey in year one.”
The Vice Chancellor also affirmed that the university possesses sufficient academic and non-academic staff to support its operations. He emphasised that this personnel was in place even before the transition from the former Dental College to the University of Allied Health Sciences.
“In some institutions, when such announcements are made, they often need to recruit 80 to 90 per cent of their staff from outside. However, we are grateful that, upon our announcement, we were able to meet 90 per cent of our staffing requirements internally. This reflects our readiness and the timeliness of our transition from college to university.
“The level of preparation exhibited by our staff prior to this moment has been extraordinary. Those who came to inspect and verify our readiness recognised that we have the necessary resources and capabilities to succeed,” Emaimo stated.
He also revealed that the university’s visitor, President Bola Tinubu, along with the Ministers for Health and Education, have provided their full support for the institution.
