
The former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has listed the construction of Zungur/Bagel Dam which is designed to serve the Bauchi local government water and generate power for about seven local councils of the state.
Dogara who spoke during the commissioning of a 2.5km road project awarded by the Senator representing Bauchi South, Shehu Buba Umar, cited in Zaranda Village, Toro Local Government, said that he was physically present at the event over the quality representation of Buba.
The Former Speaker urged the Lawmaker to lobby the execution of the Dam from the President, Bola Tinubu, saying that the project when completed would be the best in the whole of Bauchi South. Additionally, Dogara reminded the President on the commencement of oil exploration at the Kolmani well which was flagged off November 2022.
Speaking on the Dam, Dogara said: “If Mr. President will approve this project… When I was Speaker, the project was projected at N73billion to complete but because of the value of Naira currently, when we did a redesign and costing, it came to almost N100billion. I told him (Senator Buba) that if Mr. President would do this project for us, come for commissioning and kick start it and it gets to a level of completion, by 2027, he does not need to come to Bauchi for re-election campaign.
“Also, we know that oil has been discovered in Bauchi State. Bauchi will soon join the league of oil producing states in Nigeria, we want to request two things from the President –we are done with the Zungur/Bagel Dam, the next thing is the immediate exploration of oil at the Kolmani site,” he said.
Also speaking, Senator Buba pledged more dividends of democracy to the seven local government areas in his constituency, saying the delivered project was done within the shortest period after it was awarded on 5th October, 2024 as part of his constituency projects.
He said that his administration was committed to inclusive representation that gives priority to the welfare of the people. “We have given scholarships to hundreds of students to study in different universities while a good number of them have received facilitated admissions.
“We are providing assistance to our farmers. We have done numerous empowerment programmes for our teeming youth and others have been given job opportunities in different establishments. We will continue to do our very best.”
