A protest has erupted in Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State, over the alleged shooting of Wakeel Nurudeen Alowonle, the Chairman of Osun State Transport Management System (OSTMS).
The protesters, who are members of the OSTMS, are demanding justice for Alowonle, who was allegedly shot by operatives of the Osun Police Command Anti-Kidnapping Squad on Monday night.
According to reports, Alowonle was arrested by the police on Monday night for being in possession of a police pistol and ammunition. However, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment raised the alarm on Tuesday over the alleged shooting of Alowonle to near death in police custody over a domestic matter.
The protesters, who are mostly members of the OSTMS, have blocked the expressway at Aregbe Park, disrupting the free flow of traffic. The protesters are demanding that the police explain the circumstances surrounding Alowonle’s alleged shooting and take immediate action to address the situation.
