Breaking: Seven Suspected Bandits Nabbed in Kaduna

The Kaduna State command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of seven suspected bandits and the recovery of five firearms with live ammunition in separate intelligence-led operations carried out across the state.

The arrests, according to the police, followed actionable intelligence received by the Command, leading to swift operations by specialised units of the force.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mansir Hassan, said the first operation was carried out on January 28 after credible intelligence revealed that five individuals were in possession of prohibited firearms.

Hassan explained that detectives attached to the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department acted promptly on the information.

“Based on credible intelligence received, operatives of the Anti–Car Theft Section of the SCID swung into action and arrested five suspects,” the statement said.

The suspects were identified as Yusuf Aliyu Yusuf, Ahmed Umar, Abdullahi Muhammad, Ahmad Jazuli, and Muktar Bashir.

Items recovered from the suspects during the operation included one English-made AK-47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines, two English Beretta pistols with a fully loaded magazine, and one locally fabricated Beretta pistol loaded with seven rounds of live ammunition.

According to the police, the suspects are currently in custody and are undergoing investigation to uncover other criminal networks linked to them.

“The suspects are in our custody and investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate,” Hassan added.

In a related development, the Command recorded another breakthrough on January 29 following intelligence reports on the movement of suspected bandits within the Zaria metropolis.

The Divisional Police Officer of Zaria City Division, leading a team of 47 Police Mobile Force operatives on stop-and-search duties, intercepted and arrested Adamu Lawal and Abdulhadi Lawal, both from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The suspects were found in possession of one locally fabricated firearm.

Police said the suspects are cooperating with investigators and have been providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of other accomplices currently on the run.

Commending the officers involved in the operations, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, praised their professionalism and swift response to intelligence reports.

He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for banditry and other forms of criminality.

“Kaduna State will remain hostile to criminal elements,” the Commissioner warned.

The Command assured residents of its determination to sustain aggressive and intelligence-driven operations to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

“The Kaduna State Police Command remains committed to protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens,” the statement concluded.
