BREAKING: 12 Killed in Fatal Road Crash

At least 12 people, including four women and eight men, have tragically lost their lives in an auto crash along the Lapai-Agaie road in Niger State.

Quoting an eyewitness, Daily Trust reports that that three of the deceased women were from the same family.

Reports indicate that three others—a driver and two women—sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Lapai General Hospital.

The newspaper further reports that the crash was caused by a head-on collision between a Wemer passenger bus, which was carrying 15 people, and a trailer at Nami village on Saturday morning.

Speaking from his hospital bed via telephone, the bus driver, Mohammed Baba, explained that he departed from Gwari Market Park in Minna, the capital of Niger State, heading towards Katcha, the headquarters of Katcha LGA.

He mentioned that the trailer driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, and despite his efforts to regain control of the bus, a collision ensued.

“I left Gwari Market Park with 15 passengers this morning (Saturday). After passing Lapai, the trailer tried to overtake another vehicle, and before I could react, we collided head-on. The trailer driver fled the scene immediately, and we haven’t seen him since,” he stated.

Kumar Tsukwam, the Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, confirmed the accident, stating that his team was still on-site to gather accurate information.
