The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano has suspended four of its National Assembly members due to accusations of actions against the party’s interests.
Hashimu Dungurawa, the state chairman of the party, made the announcement during a press briefing in Kano on Monday, February 24, 2025.
The suspended lawmakers represent various constituencies in Kano State, including Kano South, Rano/Kibiya, Dala Federal, and Rogo/Karaye Federal.
The suspended members are Kawu Sumaila, Ali Gini, Sani Rogo, and Kabiru Rurum.
Dungurawa stated that while these individuals were elected under the NNPP’s banner, their recent actions have not aligned with the party’s values and goals.
Dungurawa referred to a recent event where Kawu Sumaila opened projects at his university without inviting party members, calling it an example of the members’ disloyalty.
A committee will be formed to look into the matter, and the issue will be resolved.
Despite the suspensions, Dungurawa left the door open for potential reconciliation, saying the lawmakers could be readmitted if their relationship with the party improved.
This move comes amid internal disagreements within the NNPP in Kano, with some members expressing dissatisfaction with the party leadership.
