Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has voiced strong criticism regarding the appointments made by President Bola Tinubu since he took office.
In an interview on Arise TV on Monday, El-Rufai accused Tinubu of favouring his “boys” from Lagos for key political positions.
He warned against blaming the entire South-West for the president’s perceived shortcomings, stressing that the skewed appointments are the sole responsibility of the president himself.
El-Rufai stated: “President Tinubu’s appointments are notably imbalanced. It is unfair to hold the South-West accountable for the actions of one man.
“The president’s selections are not based on the fact that the appointees are Yoruba, but rather because they are his personal associates, and many of these appointments don’t adequately represent the South-West.
“It’s important to clarify the situation. The appointments lack balance—this is undeniable. However, this isn’t a reflection on the Yoruba as a whole. We shouldn’t penalise the Yorubas for the failings of individuals, just as we should not blame northerners for the military’s misdeeds.
“We must concentrate on individuals and ensure they are held accountable.
“President Tinubu has the opportunity to rectify this. It’s not too late, but there is considerable unrest in the north.”
