President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the National Caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking the first such gathering since he assumed office on May 29, 2023.
The high-level meeting is taking place at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, with top party leaders in attendance.
The caucus meeting serves as a precursor to the APC National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which is scheduled to hold on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Wuse 2, Abuja.
Among the key figures present are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. Ganduje arrived alongside nine other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including the deputy national chairmen (North and South), national secretary, legal adviser, treasurer, organizing secretary, women leader, youth leader, and leader of persons living with disabilities.
Also in attendance are APC governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum. The meeting is expected to pave the way for the upcoming NEC session at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
It was gathered that key issues on the agenda include the scheduling of a non-elective convention, in line with the party’s constitution. The caucus is also expected to deliberate on forming party standing committees, presenting plans for the establishment of The Progressive Institute (TPI), and implementing a membership e-registration exercise. Additionally, the meeting will review a report from the national legal adviser on ongoing litigations involving the party in various courts.
Other notable attendees include members of the Nigeria Governors Forum, led by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Sokoto, and Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
South-South APC leaders at the meeting include former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Silva. From the North, notable attendees include Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura, Senator Aliyu Wammako, Niger State Governor Umar Bago, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Abubakar Bagudu.
Representing the South-West are pioneer APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, Iyiola Omisore, Olusegun Osoba, and Senator Lola Ashiru.
Also in attendance are former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, former Cross River State Governor Prof. Ben Ayade, and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
