BREAKING: Family declares man wanted over religious conversion, offers $20,000 bounty

A family dispute in Benin City, Edo State, has escalated into a public hunt as a resident, Adams Musa, has declared his brother, Idris Musa, wanted for allegedly converting from Islam to Christianity, sparking an urgent need for resolution.

Idris, now identifying as Oluwagbenga George, is accused of engaging in activities deemed harmful to the Islamic community’s peace and unity.

The 46-year-old was last known to reside at No. 19, 2nd Edokpolor Street, Benin City. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes.

His family claims his new identity and faith have raised serious concerns. They are seeking his whereabouts for questioning.

In a rare move, the family has placed a $20,000 bounty for information leading to his location and possible apprehension, emphasising their desperate plea for information.

They urge anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts to report to the nearest Sharia police station, Islamic court, or religious authority.

Alternatively, informants can contact the family via the phone number 2349042432547. Confidentiality is assured.

The situation has stirred controversy. Nigeria’s constitution protects religious freedom, but conversions often cause tensions in close-knit communities.

Attempts to reach Idris, now known as Oluwagbenga George, have been unsuccessful. Religious and community leaders in Edo State are urging caution to prevent potential sectarian clashes, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

Authorities have yet to respond, but security analysts warn the case could set a dangerous precedent if mishandled, highlighting the need for a cautious and strategic response.
