BREAKING: Ogun Assembly urges Govt to rename road after late lawmaker, Onanuga

The Ogun House of Assembly has passed a resolution, calling on the state government to immortalise the late former Deputy Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, Adewunmi Onanuga.

The assembly specifically urged the state government to rename the High Court Road in Sagamu after the late lawmaker.

The passage of the resolution followed a debate on the floor of the house led by the sponsor, Damilare Bello (PDP-Sagamu I), and supported by other lawmakers.

The lawmakers took turns to extol the virtues of the late federal lawmaker, describing her as a distinguished daughter of the state. They also praised her contributions to the development of the state and the nation.

Recall that Onanuga, who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, died on January 15 at the age of 59.

Similarly, the assembly also paid glowing tributes to other eminent Nigerians from the state who passed away in the last two weeks.

They commended their unwavering commitments to their communities, the state, and the nation.

The former speaker, Olakunle Oluomo (APC-Ifo I), had earlier reported the demise of a prominent industrialist, Ogooluwa Bankole, who established Premier Paint Industry in 1985.

The minority leader, Adeleye Lukman (PDP-Odoogbolu), also reported the death of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, whom he described as a lifelong advocate for justice and truth.

On his part, the majority leader, Yusuf Sheriff (APC-Ado Odo Ota I), paid tribute to the late Sen. Solomon Otegbola, whom he described as a respected political leader who represented Ogun West Senatorial District in the Third Republic.

The lawmakers, led by the speaker, Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda), shared heartfelt tributes to the deceased and observed a minute of silence in their honour.
