Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has dismissed the recent allegations made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, regarding his remarks on the ongoing election tribunal.
In a statement released by his media team, Okpebholo rejected claims that his comments were unfounded, describing them as a diversionary tactic aimed at deflecting attention from the party’s previous electoral transgressions.
The Governor’s media aide, Bugie Okhuemoi, emphasised that Okpebholo’s comments were grounded in credible intelligence, stating that the governor never questioned the integrity of the tribunal members.
“At no point did the governor cast aspersions on the tribunal’s integrity. His remarks were solely to highlight attempts by certain PDP elements to influence the judicial process. However, that does not imply any success on their part,” Okhuemoi clarified.
Governor Okpebholo’s team further scrutinised the PDP’s reaction, suggesting that the party’s heightened response indicated a guilty conscience.
According to him,”If there was no truth to the allegations, why would Ighodalo appear so rattled?” Okhuemoi questioned, adding that a “clear conscience fears no accusation.”
“The people of Edo have made their choice. False outrage cannot alter the fact that they have chosen a leader who understands and prioritises their needs.”
