BREAKING: PDP re-elects Odefa as South-East Zonal Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has re-elected Chief Ali Odefa as the National Vice Chairman for the South-East Zone for another four-year term.

Odefa secured re-election on Wednesday at the party’s South-East Zonal Delegates Congress held at Okpara Square in Enugu.

Also re-elected were Zonal Secretary James Ugwu, Treasurer Ochebu Regina, and Financial Secretary Mmadubike Okoro, while Igwe Augustina emerged as Publicity Secretary.

Other officials include Nwankwo Obinna as Legal Adviser and Arodogu Ifeyinwa as Woman Leader, among others.

Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Funkekeme Solomon, declared them unopposed and described the election as peaceful and well-organised.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State commended the delegates for their commitment and discipline during the exercise.

He called for party unity, emphasising that the South-East remains a PDP stronghold.

“For us to achieve the party’s rebirth, we must stay united and resolute,” Mbah stated.

Similarly, the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, urged members to uphold party values and maintain its relevance nationwide.

Odefa, speaking on behalf of the re-elected officials, expressed gratitude to the delegates for their confidence in the leadership.

“We have another four years to correct past mistakes, and I urge those who feel aggrieved to join us in rebuilding the party,” he said.

He also appealed for financial support from stakeholders to strengthen the party’s operations.

The election was attended by Enugu State Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, PDP National Secretary Ude Okoye, National and State Assembly members, council chairmen, party leaders, and delegates from the five South-East states.

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Abakaliki, on Wednesday, upheld Odefa’s expulsion from the PDP.

The PDP Executive Committee in Odefa’s Ward—Oguduokwor, Oshiri Community in Onicha Local Government Area—had suspended him on 4th October 2024 over alleged anti-party activities.

Delivering judgment on a suit filed by the ward executive, Justice Hilary Oshomah upheld the expulsion, granting all the reliefs sought.
